清末以降，大量的中国佛教造像流失美国。对美国博物馆藏造像的调查、著录与研究是中国艺术史、美术考古、佛学等诸多学科领域研究的必要课题。本书上编在实地调查三大馆藏佛教雕塑、绘画、工艺及建筑构件的基础上，对其题材、流失、艺术特色、时代与出处作了梳理与鉴别，下编对北朝思惟像、吹横笛乐伎天像及弟子像进行专题研究，是目前中国学者整理与研究美国单馆馆藏中国佛教造像最为全面、最系统的著作。

作者简介：刘洪彩（1977— ），女，山东临沂人。南京艺术学院博士生，河北工业大学副教授，国家公派波士顿大学与芝加哥大学访问学者。主持国家社会科学基金人文社会科学研究青年基金等课题10余项，发表学术论文20余篇，出版专著1部，主编教材2部。研究方向为佛教美术。
